FAQ
Below are a few of the most common questions regarding Therapy in the GMA.
-
Do I need a Doctor’s referral for Athletic Therapy? No. Athletic Therapy does not require a Doctor’s referral in order to receive treatment. However, most insurance companies will need the referral in order to cover your claim.
-
What should I expect with my first visit? At your first visit an initial assessment will be conducted. This assessment involves a history, functional assessment and special tests to determine the exact cause of your pain. An individual program will be set out for you and the start of this treatment program will begin.
-
Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment? For an Athletic Therapy appointment the patient is asked to bring shorts, t-shirt and running shoes. For females, bras that open in the back are preferred for treatments on the table, sports bra are also acceptable.
-
What types of payment do you accept?Currently we accept cash or etransfer only
-
My place is too small, can we setup an alternate site?"YES! Absolutely. If you don't have the space or feel comfortable having someone in your home, that is completely understandable. We have many options available and you can decide what works best, whether it be my space, outdoor space, or any other special arrangements necessary.
-
You have a lot of expertise but which is the right one for me?Great question! While it may seem like I have different expertises, in reality, Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy and Massage Therapy all complement each other and inter-twine. While there are definetely different approaches and steps to each profession, which service is best for you will depend on what stage of injury you are in mostly. Preventative management will utilize much more of the Exercise Science background of mine to ensure we help prevent injuries while Massage and AT would be complimentary to releasing and assessing your musculoskeletal systems. Recently following an injury, Athletic Therapy and possiblly Massage Therapy would be more beneficial as exercise may need to be halted for rest and healing to occur. Whichever tool in the toolbox were are using together, they will always all work together to create the best plan for you, so don't worry as much about which therapy is right for you and just worry about getting better or staying healthy!
-
Do you provide Direct Billing? No, at the moment, we go not do direct billing. We would provide you with a hand written or electornic receipt and it is your responsibility to claim the treatment to your insurance.
-
Is my coverage the same for Athletic Therapy and Massage Therapy? The short answer is probably NO. Most companies offer different coverages for different professions and you may in fact have full coverage for one profession with little or none of another. Best thing to do is to check with your benefits prior to having an appointment or contact us for more details on how to possibly add it to your coverage (assuming your business has the right coverage to allow it to be added).
